This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future away from worry.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the character of Miami: happy, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
