The co-founders of the well-known frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has claimed that parent company the multinational conglomerate prevented the launch for an innovative pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, who established the business with his partner, disclosed how he plans to personally create the controversial product as part of a personal collection highlighting causes Ben & Jerry's has been prevented from speaking out about.

Ongoing Dispute Between Founders and Parent Company

This latest development intensifies the ongoing conflict between the world-famous ice cream maker with its corporate parent, the British consumer goods corporation that has owned Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

Both founders have claimed that Unilever along with its ice cream arm Magnum improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's against "honouring its social mission".

The Fruit Sorbet as an Emblem of Solidarity

Mr. Cohen stated through social media that he is creating a new watermelon-based sorbet, asking for consumer ideas for naming options plus additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen stated from his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-based ice cream that calls for permanent peace for Palestinians while demanding addressing the harm that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has emerged as an emblem for solidarity with the Palestinian people because of its coloration, that mirror the colors in Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Previous Activism plus Recent Changes

In 2021, the ice cream company ceased sales of their merchandise in territories occupied by Israel, leading to the parent company transferring their Israel business to a local licensee, thereby permitting ongoing distribution within the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming dessert series is being developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious ice cream brand that originally established several years back to support ex- political contender Senator Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Management Shifts plus Future Intentions

The founder indicated how he will create other ice cream flavors focusing on concerns that Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking about openly due to Unilever.

This development follows partner Jerry Greenfield resigned his position at Ben & Jerry's in September, after decades with the organization, mentioning concerns regarding how the company's autonomy had been undermined following corporate moves to restrict its social activism.

At that time, Ben Cohen stated that "Jerry has strong compassion and this conflict with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

"My heart compels me to continue to work inside the company to fight for its independence so that it can fulfill its ethical purpose, the principles which it was founded on while upholding for over 40 years," he told media outlets.
