Arsenal's manager has expressed confidence that his squad can persist in handling with injury setbacks following revealing that attacker Kai Havertz is not ready for a few more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for Havertz

Havertz has been absent since the summer following knee surgery. Hoped to return at the start of this month, Arteta revealed the player encountered a problem when increasing his recovery and could not progress “to the next level.”

“Our experience helped us build a squad that is far more dependable and has greater depth,” commented Arteta.

Selection Dilemma for Midweek Fixture

This update leaves a dilemma for Wednesday’s match against Brentford. A decision is required between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who got a goal in an unfamiliar forward role on Sunday, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return from a muscle injury off the bench. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is available after 11 months out.

Defensive Concerns Remain

Additional concerns surround defender William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who sat out the Stamford Bridge game. As a result, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié will probably continue in the backline for the table-toppers.

Arteta believes the significant outlay on reinforcements in the last transfer window has resulted in a more robust situation to navigate such absences.

Greater Options Vital for Premier League Pursuit

Questioned if more options was aiding their league challenge, the manager agreed. “Absolutely, as this campaign has seen more issues in certain positions, and now what’s happening with the backline,” he added.

“History has shown us that we have to use players in alternative spots, and they have to be able to fulfil different roles if we aim to challenge at this level. And the case of Mikel is just the best one.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Suffering Star

Commenting on the delay previously mentioned by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave additional context. “His recovery was progressing. He was unable to progress to the subsequent stage and now the signs are like we have overcome that hurdle.”

Arteta expressed his keenness to have him back. “Everyone is eager to have him. I mean, it’s a player that, in my view, I love so much for the qualities he offers to the team, but his character, his nature. I observe his frustration on the sidelines.”

“His playing record is exceptional, he’s been always available, and I look forward to see him return with the squad playing because I feel it’s going to be a huge lift.”
