Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has beaten Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying due at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he rotated at corner four during the early running.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to escape with just a slight brush of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill corner leading to the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton ended the session in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's car P3, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
