Fast bowler Atkinson Exacerbates the English team's Injury Worries.

'Serious blow' for England after Atkinson leaves the field due to a hamstring issue.

The pace bowler further complicated the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the ground during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test in the Ashes series.

The right-arm seamer experienced discomfort in his hamstring immediately following a delivery of the fourth over during the morning session.

The England team stated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and required time away from the action in order to be assessed "over the next few hours".

The concluding match of the tour in Sydney starts this coming Sunday.

The visitors have previously lost key quicks Mark Wood to a knee injury and another paceman to a side strain on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was called up to provide backup.

His form was underwhelming in the opening two Tests, taking just three wickets.

He was omitted from the previous Test, then recalled for the fourth Test to fill the void.

Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs while batting being one of only three English batsmen to reach double figures.

Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he came back for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

Unfortunately, towards the conclusion of his spell, he sent down a variation to the batsman and promptly felt at his leg.

The English bowler was brought back for the Boxing Day Test having missed of the third.
