Canada's Blue Jays Claim World Series Matchup Versus defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros winning the championship in the 2017 season.

Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their first World Series following 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the final game seven of the American League Championship Series.

Trailing 3-1, Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh frame, leading the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a 4-3 series triumph in the series. Next up are the Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the anticipated Fall Classic.

"It's incredible for this squad, our city, our country," Springer stated, an integral part of the Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "This is such an unbelievable moment."

Springer has now connected for twenty-three playoff homers, placing him third on the list after Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"It's hard to imagine another person anywhere that I want up in that moment besides Springer with his post-season brilliance," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle, despite leading the early in the series, remain the one club that has never reached in a Fall Classic.

Wilson stated "certainly that it's painful" following his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts in the campaign.

"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this game," he remarked.

Toronto's team won the championship on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and are set to host the Dodgers in game one on Friday.
